Having been in business for almost twenty years now, it’s fair to say that we know a thing or two about recovering data. Now, via this very blog, we’re going to share with you our top tips on caring for and protecting your vital data through a series of posts – and we’re starting with what we believe is the most obvious and effective way of keeping your data safe: backing it up.
Ok, ok. We know that it’s obvious, but you’d be surprised just how often people will store vital word documents, spreadsheets, photographs and all of their other valuable and vital data on just one drive. Should that drive fail, then these individuals are left with two choices: shell out to have the data recovered or live without it. It really is that simple.
Many of our customers inform us that they simply could not justify the costs of a backup drive when they only consider a very small portion of their data to be vital. These people are falling into the very common mistake of assuming that a backup storage device is certain to be expensive when, in truth, it needn’t.
If it is only a relatively small amount of data, then you can store it on something as inexpensive as a writable CD. If something larger is required, then SD cards and USB stick offer affordable backup options also. Alternatively, if you’ve got more data, then search for second hand or refurbished media.
So, now you’ve got no excuse; make sure your vital data is stored on at least two devices at all times.
